Retha Moutray Obituary

Retha Fern Moutray entered this world on Christmas day, 1931.  She went to her heavenly home on August 30, 2022, at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 5 days.  She is the daughter of Edgar Glee  and Ocle Floerene(Staton) Lamb.  She followed Rex Dwayne, Dorothy Lee, Garland Wilson, Robert Lavern(Bob) into the family of eleven.  The later siblings were Roberta Jean, Lloyt Louanne, Nathan Glee(Nate), Gerald Dee(Jerry), Marjorie Sue(Suzie) and Martha Alice(Wink).  The family was raised near Allendale, Missouri.  The children all attended Redding School and Retha graduated from Worth County High School.  She was married to Densil Waugh for a very short time.  She then married Kenneth Arden Moutray on October 19, 1951.  To this union two children were born, Patricia Lee and Michael Lynn.  They lived in Grant City near what is now the nursing home, later moving to a farm on the edge of town and then to a home near the Grant City Factory.

Retha and Ken drove gravel trucks when they were first married and then Ken went to work for Co-op, hauling gasoline and fuels to businesses and homes.  Retha worked in the local restaurant.  She went to work for the Grant City Cap Factory providing bookkeeping and payroll processing.  After Ken had a stroke Retha moved to the Bonner Spring, KS to be near Ken in the VA Hospitals.  She worked again processing payroll for a local factory.

Sometime later Retha entered a new  line of business, she went to work for Groendyke Transportation as a terminal manager.  She lived in Bonner Springs, KS and St Louis, MO during this time.  She spent many years with this position then later worked for OLT continuing her trucking experience.

Retha later did work for the Rupp family as a logistics coordinator.  She was then living in Lee’s Summit and remained there until her retirement.  She later moved to Gardner to be closer to family as she continued to ‘do her own thing’.    A couple of years ago it was determined she needed a little more assistance and she moved to Grand Prairie, Tx where she resided until her passing.

Retha loved telling stories about her time in the transportation business and kept many of those friendships active for many years.  She also kept telling stories about her family, recalling many around growing up with the large family and storms that hit the area.

She loved being with her families and always attended the Lamb family reunions enjoying the visiting and remembrances that always took place.

Retha is preceded in death by her parents, Glee and Ocle, her husband, Kenneth, brothers and sisters, Dorothy, Rex, Garland, Robert, Roberta, Lloyt, Gerald, Marjorie, a grandson, Gage.

Retha leaves behind a daughter and son, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.  So the stories will continue.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, Missouri. Burial will be in the Grant City Cemetery.
