On June 8, 1944 Kathryn married Joe King. They shared a life together for 61 years until Joe’s death in 2005. They had six children; 5 daughters and 1 son.
Kathryn attended school in Redding, Iowa. She was baptized and became a member of the Redding Assembly of God Church. Kathryn was a homemaker and a wonderful cook. Her fried chicken and homemade pie was always a request at family dinners. Her family was her joy in life. When the children were older Kathryn got her certified nurse’s aide certificate and worked in both nursing homes in Grant City. She was a very caring nurse and loved helping patients. After retiring from nursing she started babysitting for her great-granddaughters which led to then another child and another child from around the area. Many of these children would still come by for visits even after they were out of school. They were always welcomed with open arms and always remembered where the cookie jar was.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, daughter, Connie; parents; brother, Bob and son-in-law, Raymond Mccabe.
She is survived by her children: Linda (Will) Brown of Allendale, Missouri; Betty McCabe of Salem, Oregon, Peggy (Lynn) Schoenmann of Belle Plain, Iowa, Mary (Marty) Nurski of St. Joseph, Missouri, and son Ron (Liz) King of Lyons, Kansas; son-in-law, Charles Sanders of Grant City, Missouri; sister, Maxine Lowe of Creston, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, several great and great-great-grandchildren.
