James Newby Obituary

     James (Jim) Newby was born December 16, 1951 in Gentry County, Missouri to Chester and Evelyn (Sager) Newby. He passed away March 19, 2026 at the Village Care Center in Maryville, Missouri at the age of 74. 

     Jim graduated from Stanberry High School. He served in the United States Navy from December 21, 1970 to September 12, 1974.  Jim held several jobs throughout his life with his favorite farming for many years with his good friend Jason Sprague.   

Jim was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He was so proud when he bagged his 11 inch turkey tom.  Jim’s favorite activity was spending time with “his girls” watching movies, playing games and eating pizza. 

     Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dennis Newby, brother-in-law Gordon Anderson and nephews Gary Lee, Roger and Randy Huffman.  Surviving are his brothers, Duane Newby of Parnell, MO, Steven (Donna) Newby of Kearney, MO, sisters: Joyce (Gary) Huffman of St. Joseph, MO, Nancy Anderson of Spickard, MO, Chelyn (Chuck) Lager of Maryville, MO and Sandra (Stephen) Kemper of Conception Junction, MO, sister-in-law Julie Newby of Kansas City, MO , numerous nieces and nephews, and family at heart in every way,  Jason(April) Sprague and their daughters, Robyn, Angela, Kayla, Katie and Gavyn as well as many friends.  

Graveside services and inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the High Ridge Cemetery in Stanberry, Missouri. Arrangements are under direction of Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, Missouri.  

No flowers have been requested, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
